June 11, 2010 - Slidell Louisiana
Slidell Animal Shelter Grand Opening
June 11, 2010 Slidell, Louisiana Animal Control officially opened the doors to its new shelter. The event was attended by a number of local dignitaries, including Mayor Ben Morris, who proclaimed, “This is the finest animal shelter in Louisiana”. And those attending the ribbon cutting ceremony could not have agreed with him more!
There was a tremendous outpouring of warmth and praise for all that Noah’s Wish had done and was still doing to help the area. Virtually everyone had fond remembrances of Noah’s Wish from immediately after Hurricane Katrina to this day, and all had stories of how Noah’s Wish helped them and the community get through that time.

Representing Noah’s Wish were Amy Maher, Board Member and Donna Ganguet, Chief Operating Officer.

2010 Pet Expo
Pet Expo 2010 - An exciting and exhausting experience this year - Wow - What a turn out!
Pet Expo featured so many pet adoption groups, breeders, pet products, and fun activities it was hard to stay put at our booth! We must have handed out at least 1,000 sets of flyers to the public interested in getting their Pet-Go-Kits ready after viewing our display.
We also had a great deal of interest from people wanting to learn about our training program for next year and who were sorry they could attend this year’s session.
We were also approached by stationary rescue group, who admitted their evacuation plans needed to be fine tuned a bit - we encouraged them to get it together and the typical response was, "But we will just call you!"
A representative from a local SPCA chapter also came by to chat about working together in future responses!

The drill had all the aspects of a real disaster response, volunteers performed search and rescue operations; locating and bringing animals (of the stuffed variety) to the shelter, a number of challenging intake scenarios and a complete review of the sheltering operation. Everyone enjoyed the day, were glad to have the opportunity to hone their response skills outside the "real thing" and topped the session off with a pizza party complements of Dominos Pizza.
Special thanks to Cindy Sanchez, Planet Doggy owner, who graciously hosted the event at her facility and who spent countless hours set up the drill components to make them seem real and interesting.
