Region 4 participates in area drill July 31, Wantagh, New York

Region 4 News
They came far and wide just to practice an animal sheltering drill in Wantagh NY. Noah's Wish Volunteers came from as far as Buffalo New York, 7hrs away, and from Glen Dale Maryland, a 6 hour drive, and places in between, from Connecticut, New York and New Jersey!
Noah’s Wish came in to support the first Animal Sheltering Exercise for Pet Safe Coalition.
Pet Safe Coalition (PSC) is made up of 12 animal support groups and has an MOU with Noah’s Wish. PSC has hosted two trainings to get their coalition memebers ready. One of the Coalition members- Bide A Wee, graciously loaned PSC access to their building and grounds for the exercise. Overall, there were 32 participants that came together to make the exercise a huge success. Special thanks to our Noah’s Wish Volunteers who took the journey and made us proud!

Region 1 holds its first disaster drill at the Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills, CA
Volunteer Hours: 135
Participants: 20 Trained Volunteers, 5 Convergent Volunteers, 2 Coordinators, 1 Senior Volunteer and 1 Staff
On June 6, 2010, Noah's Wish Volunteers, Coordinators, and Staff met to practice the skills they learned at this year's training. The drill actually started the previous week, with Alerts, Availability Requests and Authorizations to Deploy being issued to participants. Everyone arrived at the deployment with paperwork in hand, signed in and were ready and anxious to get going.
To give everyone the opportunity to experience all aspects of the event we divided into three groups; everyone was able to experience Search and Rescue, Intake and Sheltering. Dividing into smaller groups allowed everyone to enjoy all aspects of the drill, and yet provided an environment that encouraged questions and hands-on application of skills acquired at previous trainings.
Evaluations from the drill were extremely encouraging, everyone was happy with the subject matter, the method and the experience. Most wanted to do it again, however, they did say that perhaps a day that wasn't in the high 90's might be preferable.
Special thanks to Joe Spera, Placer County Animal Services, for all his valuable expertise in explaining the Do's and Don'ts of Search and Rescue.
Thanks to Placer County CART for the use of their Nomex Suits
